Weekly Commentary: For the past four Emmy ceremonies, Netflix has had a strong presence in the limited or anthology series category with “Godless,” “When They See Us,” “Unbelievable,” “Unorthodox,” “The Queen’s Gambit” and “Inventing Anna.” With “Gambit” the only victor in that run, they have two mighty shows with the critical backing and acclaim to get them over the finish line — Ryan Murphy’s “Dahmer – Monster: The Jeffrey Dahmer Story” and Lee Sung-jin’s “Beef,” which is co-produced by the current reigning Oscar champion studio, A24. However, even though each has its own share of individual baggage and controversy, the miniseries have managed to stay above the fray and look assured of Emmy recognition.

With its look at serial killer Jeffrey Dahmer, the Netflix series is one of many stories with a killer edge in the race. Apple TV+’s “Black Bird” looks at the convicted killer and rapist Larry Hall (played by supporting front-runner Paul Walter Hauser) while

Prime Video’s “Daisy Jones & the Six” has a legion of followers on social and consumer spaces. However, it’s unclear if that will translate with TV Academy voters. The team has been doing their rounds leading up to voting, including gracing the cover of Variety’s Women of Awards season special issue.

We’re anticipating five nominees in this category since we’re currently tracking about 47 entrants. Eighty submissions are needed for six nominees (160 for seven and over 240 for eight).
