‘Kraven the Hunter’ Trailer: Aaron Taylor-Johnson Plays Marvel Villain
Aaron Taylor-Johnson is hunting big game in the first trailer for Sony’s “Kraven the Hunter.”
The new film teases a villain origin story for Marvel character. In comic book storylines, Kraven is a killer predator that sets his sights on Spider-Man. He is also oftentimes portrayed as a member of the supervillain team the Sinister Six.
The latest in Sony Pictures’ universe of Marvel characters — which includes the Spidey spinoffs “Venom” and “Morbius” and and the upcoming “Madame Web” and “El Muerto” — “Kraven the Hunter” is set to be released theatrically Oct. 6. Taylor-Johnson and Abbott star alongside Russell Crowe, Fred Hechinger and Alessandro Nivola. Ariana DeBose also stars in the film as Calypso, a voodoo priestess who is the on-and-off lover of Kraven.
In the Marvel comics, Kraven is a world-famous explorer and brutal hunter who despises Spider-Man. Born to the name Sergei Kravinoff, Kraven learned to survive in the harshest of conditions as an orphaned child. The boy then learns of his amazingly natural talent for hunting when he is passing through Africa. By adulthood, he becomes better and stronger, and a special herb potion gives him superhuman abilities including include enhanced strength, speed, agility, stamina and longevity. With a wide range of weapons at his disposal — including blowguns and darts, axes, spears, whips and traps — Kraven seeks out his prey with unmatched vigor.
“Kraven the Hunter” is directed by J.C. Chandor with Avi Arad and Matt Tolmach producing. Art Marcum, Matt Holloway and Richard Wenk wrote the screenplay.
