There are 14 races this weekend at the 2023 Breeders’ Cup, which means there will be 14 new world champions crowned at Santa Anita Park.
The Juvenile races kicked off the event on Friday. Saturday’s schedule includes the Filly & Mare races and the prestigious Breeders’ Cup Classic, which carries a purse of $6 million.
The 2023 Breeders’ Cup Classic takes place on Saturday, Nov. 4 at 6:40 p.m. ET / 3:40 p.m. ET. Competed across 1¼ miles, this race features male and female horses three-years old and older, with 14 horses scheduled to take the starting gate.
Breeders’ Cup predictions have Arabian Knight as the betting favorite, with oddsmakers also listing White Abarrio and Ushba Tesoro as contenders for a top finish. Saudi Crown could also surprise. Worth noting: Kentucky Derby winner, Mage, and Belmont Stakes winner, Arcangelo, both withdrew from the race, leaving the field relatively wide open after Arabian Knight.
The Swiss watchmaking brand, Longines, returns once again as the Official Partner, Official Timekeeper and Official Watch of the Breeders’ Cup. The brand is also associated with three races taking place on Saturday, including the Longines Breeders’ Cup Distaff, Longines Breeders’ Cup Turf, and of course, the Longines Breeders’ Cup Classic. Winners of the races will be awarded a timepiece from The Longines Master Collection.
