Best Criterion Collection Deals: Pricing, Availability, Buy Online

It was only a few days ago that the Criterion Collection had a surprise flash sale. The home video company’s entire catalog was slashed down to 50% off list prices. While that sale only lasted for 24 hours, there are a number of titles that are still on sale for half-off at Amazon.

We rounded up the best deals on Criterion Collection releases, including Spike Lee’s “Do The Right Thing,” Dennis Hopper’s “Easy Rider,” Whit Stillman’s “The Last Days of Disco” and much more. In fact, even a few boxed sets are half off, such as Krzysztof Kieślowski’s “The Dekalog” and Steve McQueen’s “Small Axe” anthology.

‘Do the Right Thing’ (50% Off)

Released in 1989, “Do The Right Thing” is a seminal work from director and star Spike Lee. Set in Brooklyn’s Bed-Stuy neighborhood, tensions are high and are on the verge of collapse — thanks to gentrification, over-policing, immigration and the hot summer weather. It also stars Danny Aiello, Ossie Davis, Ruby Dee, Richard Edson, Giancarlo Esposito, Bill Nunn, John Turturro, John Savage and Samuel L. Jackson.

‘A Whit Stillman Trilogy’ (50% Off)

A Whit Stillman Trilogy features the film “Metropolitan,” “Barcelona” and “The Last Days of Disco” — which were all released throughout the ’90s. Each film examines the lives of the privileged “Urban Haute Bourgeoisie” in New York City and Spain with wit, heart and biting satire of yuppie life in post-Reagan America.

‘Lars von Trier’s Europe Trilogy’ (50% Off)

The Europe Trilogy features three films from Danish director Lars von Trier — including his first feature “The Element of Crime.” The trilogy combines film noir, melodrama, horror and science fiction into one collective work.

‘Small Axe’ (50% Off)

The Small Axe anthology features five films from British director Steve McQueen. The collection showcases West Indian life in London, England during the ’60s throughout the ’80s. It stars Letitia Wright, John Boyega, Malachi Kirby, Shaun Parkes, Rochenda Sandall, Alex Jennings and Jack Lowden.

‘Shoah’ (50% Off)

“Shoah” is Claude Lanzmann’s nine-and-a-half-hour documentary on the Holocaust that’s told through interviews and testimonies of survivors and former-Nazis. It’s extensive, overwhelming and emotionally heart-wrenching, as a very impressive masterwork.

‘The Dekalog’ (50% Off)

Originally aired on Polish TV in 1989, “The Dekalog” is a 10-episode series from Krzysztof Kieślowski. It examines the lives inside of a housing complex during post-Communist in Warsaw through the themes of the Ten Commandments.

‘America Lost and Found: The BBS Story’ (50% Off)

America Lost and Found: The BBS Story takes a look at the collective films from producers Bob Rafelson, Bert Schneider and Steve Blauner throughout counter-culture Hollywood in the late ’60s and early ’70s.
