Yellowjackets” star Samantha Hanratty has wanted to be an actor since she was two years old: “I literally told my mom, I was like, I want to be on stage in TV. I knew I was going to be an actor really out of the womb.”

“I don’t know if it was like I wanted attention from being the youngest of five girls or just the love of entertaining,” she says. “You can really make people feel something. And I think my favorite thing about acting, too, is getting to tell the stories of people that don’t always have a story told about them.”

In preparing for this year’s Emmy Awards, Hanratty sat down with Variety to discuss “Yellowjackets,” her career and her personal sense of style in the first video of a new series, Variety Get Ready with Me presented by Prime.

Hanratty describes her style as “comfort driven,” opting to wear sweats or sometimes even her husband’s T-shirts tucked into her jeans, for red carpet events. For her, style determines how she feels.

“My feelings are so attached to what you wear and so it helps when you have this amazing team and this connection,” Hanratty said. “I feel like we’re also able to communicate so much and that’s really important to me.”

“Yellowjackets” was nominated for 10 Emmy Awards this year, including outstanding drama series. The Showtime series follows a team of wildly talented high-school girls soccer players who survive a plane crash deep in the Ontario wilderness, chronicling their descent from a complicated but thriving team to warring clans.

Watch Variety’s “Get Ready with Me” presented by Amazon Prime for more on how Hanratty prepared for last night’s awards — and a story about the time she snuck onto a red carpet.
